Urgent Care Q & A

What is urgent care?
Urgent care focuses on diagnosing and treating pressing, non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. It’s the stage between your primary care provider and the emergency room. Urgent care services address a comprehensive array of medical needs, ranging from colds to fractures.

When should I go to urgent care?
No one expects to get sick or injured, but every year, urgent care clinics across the United States handle more than 89 million patient visits. You may seek urgent care services at Steese Immediate Care if you’re experiencing:
-
Colds and coughs
-
Sore throats, including strep throat
-
Flu
-
Fevers
-
Persistent vomiting or diarrhea
-
Abdominal pain
-
Wheezing or shortness of breath
-
Cuts that need stitches
The team at Steese Immediate Care also diagnoses and treats injuries, including sprains, strains, and minor fractures.
You should go to the nearest emergency room if your life is in danger. For example, if you have chest pain or other signs of a heart attack or stroke, you need emergency care. Additionally, severe injuries or allergic reactions require emergency room care.

What services are included in urgent care?
Steese Immediate Care is equipped to provide comprehensive urgent care services, including:

Diagnosis
The team begins with a thorough diagnosis of your condition. In addition to completing physical exams, they also offer EKGs and a range of radiology assessments, including X-rays. The team may also order lab tests, such as blood work or urinalysis, to collect more information about your condition.

Treatment
Following your diagnosis, your provider creates a treatment plan to address your specific needs. This could include setting a broken bone or providing an immobilizing brace or boot to keep an injury stable while it heals. They can offer stitches and sutures as needed.
If you are sick, your provider determines if your illness is viral or bacterial and prescribes medication appropriately. They may also recommend oral or topical antihistamines for mild allergic reactions.

Follow-up
While many urgent care clinics recommend that you follow up with your primary care provider, the Steese Immediate Care team also offers primary care services. You can schedule follow-up appointments at the clinic to ensure that your treatment is effective, and you can return to your regular activities.
